MEMORANDUM TO: Sergeant Richmond FROM: Officer Tom Boland DATE: March 10, 2009 SUBJECT: Burglary Form Suggestions In the short time working here under your command I’ve realized that I couldn’t have picked a better place to start my career. I have the other officers to be professional and welcoming. In saying that, I hope you see these suggestions as useful and not disrespectful. I believe that some of the paperwork we use is out-of-date and could use revising. To be more specific, the burglary forms are lengthy and do not target the information we really need. Some of the other officers share the similar opinion. Since victims are generally distressed after a crime it may be easier for them to answer questions that direct their train of thought. We could use more detailed questioning to accomplish this. Instead of just asking for trademarks of the suspect(s), we should ask for basic descriptions: ethnicity, clothes, height, weight, tattoos, hair color/ style, etc. Did the suspects say anything? Did they speak a different language?
