CSE/EEE230: Computer Organization and Assembly Language Programming Fall 2009 Dr. Debra Calliss debra.calliss@asu.edu Brickyard (BYENG) 524 Office hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10:45-12:00 Catalog Description: Register-level computer organization. Instruction set architecture. Assembly language. Processor organization and design. Memory organization. IO programming, Exception/interrupt handling. Prerequisites: CSE100 or CSE110 and CSE/EEE120. Textbook: Computer Organization and Design , 4rd edition, 2009, D. Patterson and J. Hennessy Course Overview: This class begins with an introduction to assembly language programming. You will use your background working in a high-level programming language but will now work at a lower, more primitive level which reflects the computer hardware. After obtaining an understanding of a low-level assembly language, you will see how different computer organizations can support the execution of these instructions. Performance is a large issue and you will learn how to compare different organizations and understand design decisions. Website:
