Michael Patino 01115539 Chem 1122-Trupta Experiment 4- An Analysis for Water in a Hydrate Objective / Aim of the lab- The objective of this lab is to allow the experimenter to analyze an inorganic hydrate for its water content using a mass-load method. What is taught in this lab is that we will learn to find the mass of water present in the hydrate by measuring mass of hydrate before and after heating the substance (anhydrous compound). The hot plate, as well as the scale, was used in respect with the hydrates. As this is done, we realize that when hydrates are heated, water is driven off. When doing this lab, one must pay special attention to the significant digits to be sure the answer was calculated correctly. Again, this experiment stressed on how important it is to properly use safety lab procedures and guidelines. Introduction/background information- In Chemistry, one of the most important tools used is the periodic table. In the periodic table, the elements included are metals, nonmetals, and metalloids.
