Introduction: The objective of this laboratory was to measure the photostationary state of the isomerization of trans- and cis-azobenzene. This was achieved using light to drive the reaction and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to measure the ratio of the isomers at equilibrium. Experimental: The laboratory was followed according to Instrumental Characterization of Chemical Systems Laboratory (1). The instruments used were the Shimadzu SPD-10A UV-Vis detector, the Shimadzu LC-10A Liquid Chromatography, and the Shimadzu Chromatopac. Data and Results: Figure 1.
