A. I think Eason’s essay is a better representation of the state of print journalism and media today. In current times, everything is about competition and notoriety. Journalism is no longer about finding the most effective way to tell the truth, but rather the best way to get away with creating works of “art” that satisfy the egos of the writers. Eason’s article best represents this belief of mine because it talks about one journalist who fabricated an entire character, and their life, as well as hers, for the sake of “art” and winning prizes. I do believe that attributes of fiction are built into nonfiction, especially journalism and history. Journalism exists as much to relay the news to the public as much as it does to make the newspaper a profit. While they can be legal consequences for publishing completely false stories, it is commonplace to find bias or elements of complete fiction to make the paper a better read, and more popular. As for history, I have always been a solid believer that history is written by the winners. And by that, I mean that those who faced the least amount of adversity, for whatever
