Abraham Dweck 12/10/07 Prof. Chris Tomaino THTR 105 Broadway Paper – Wicked On Thursday, December 6 th I attended the musical, Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City. The play is based on the book “Wicked” by Winnie Holzman and the music and lyrics are by Stephen Schwartz; the orchestra is conducted by Dominick Amendum and the music coordinator is Michael Keller. Wicked is set in a mystical place called Oz, which in fact is a dream world thought of by Dorthy (I think that’s the best way to explain it). The play revolves around two main characters, Elphaba, who is born green and played by Stephanie J. Block, and Glinda (or Ga Linda as she liked to pronounce it), played by Annaleigh Ashford. The play is the back story of the movie The Wizard of Oz. The play begins after the wicked witch has died and all of the munchkins are surrounding Glinda, when one asks “I heard that you two used to be friends”, and from there the story begins to be told. One thing that stood out to me in this musical was the performance of Stephanie J.
