Lauryn Soorani Vanessa Osborne 09/25/09 The Monster Los Angeles is a living, breathing mess. Each day it grows wildly larger and more crowded. It is overcome with litter, crime, homelessness, greed, and lies. It’s loud, it cheats, it’s mean, and it’s rarely ever fair, but it’s alive. Los Angeles is constantly growing and evolving, always grabbing bits and pieces from its multitude of cultures to create something strange and new to please and frighten its inhabitants. The city has become so complex and confusing that its citizens always seem to find just as much to criticize as they can praise. I am hardly the first to say that I both hate and love Los Angeles, and I doubt I’ll be the last. It’s negative qualities are mind numbingly vast. It’s overpopulated, has a highly uneven distributions of wealth, the people are rude, and everyone is in some never ending race to the top. The overpopulation can be partially attributed to the fact that Los Angeles seems to have become America’s new Ellis Island. While it is flattering that so many people want to live here, the more that people come here, the more crowded the city becomes for those that already inhabit it.
