MEGR 2144 information for Test 1 Instructions that will be on the test are shown in bold: Box all answers that you want graded, show coherent solution methods, use proper units, use proper notation, use proper rounding, and use three (or four) significant figures. Print your name on the front of the test AND on the back of the test so that I can see the names either way. Any statically determinate problem that is worked as indeterminate or any indeterminate problem that is worked as determinate will be given little partial credit. Any numerical answer that does not have proper units is wrong. Typical types of problems or concepts are: 1. simple structures with connections - average shear stress in a connecting pin - bearing stress (in the pin and/or in the connecting members) - tensile stress near a hole for a bearing or near a fillet (use stress concentration charts!) - characterize normal stresses as tensile or compressive 2. axial loading - axial stress, strain, and deflections (use proper notations and state as T or C ANB)
