DNA is the genetic material in our bodies that we pass off onto our offspring that can shape certain characteristics of the children. Chromosomes are strands of DNA that are responsible for passing along genes. Genes are a part of the DNA that can determine a number characteristic. Each gene is composed of one or more allele. A dominant allele is responsible for a characteristic that is present. A recessive allele represents the absence of a characteristic. 2. If both parents are heterozygotes carrying an autosomal dominant disease, the probability that future offspring having the disease is 50% because both parents would be able to pass down a dominant allele for the disease to the offspring.
