week 2 03/09/2008 08:34:00 People who made music videos came from a different pool of talent Took a lot of people who were art directors (fashion, magazine layouts) Look is more important than following dialogue Metropolis, Madonna or shot like a Goddard film No coherent narrative like a script, look is more important than what is going to be portrayed Directors came up with the story, edited it, took on most roles Meant to look cool, no one supervising Go against what TV does-commercials do this too Do they have narratives at all? Full of loose ends, cant tell the temporal, no cause/effect Digress instead progress narrative, repetition instead of one use, add in special effects and visuals, do a theme in variations rather than a linear narrative Often affiliated with genres from film and television-to place in world you recognize In film they clearly signal when they interrupt linear narratives Verse lays out situation
