Unformatted text preview: in this summer class partly because it is faster. I use PowerPoint slides, 150 slide presentation. It is a necessity here because I have a limited amount of time. I like to cover a large amount of material and go over it quickly. . . . I guess the primary difference in teaching strategies has to do with the time element more than the students. . . . In the regular school, if I need to take a day to spend an entire session or entire week going over material that I feel they haven't mastered very well, here (CTD) we don't have that luxury. One of great advantages of the schedule here is a lot of freedom during the course of the day and how I want to divide the time up in terms of lecture presentations, showing videos, group activities . . . the freedom I have in that is very beneficial here so I think that schedule determines my teaching strategies or teaching style. The way I approached the CTD students is almost a revolving door approach or Lazy Susan, so they see it all the first week, and they see it all again the second week and they see it all again the third week. I sound like we move from unit to unit . . . I'm going to work with CTD and I'm going to work on the side of moving too quickly, and that is the difference. At my high school, I tend to work on the side of moving more slowly but not much . . . But at CTD, I always think even though I would lose some kids who might have a harder time with the material, I would rather lose them. I'd rather not lose those kids who are so gifted when they come here . . . Well, basically, the CTD and AP students are the same as far as assignments go. The reading comprehension and analysis, reading between the lines are much better. As far as the regular high school, I'd have to say basic homework like facts with a little bit of analysis. For example, in AP classes and here at CTD, I could ask them who Napoleon was, the...
