Immigration problem: The great effect two different Republican views can have on their own party Illegal immigration is a major problem in the United States and Congress seems not being able to come to an agreement for the immigration reform since the easy choices, deportation or amnesty to all, are out of the question because of the huge number of illegal immigrants. More specifically the problem lies within the Republican Party with John McCain favoring a type of amnesty and Mitt Romney pushing punishment to illegal immigrants. The union of the Republican Party is critical at this time of year because of the presidential campaigns, but the issue on immigration seems to be doing the opposite of unification. In this political cartoon Steve Benson shows how McCain and Romney’s personal interests over the issue of illegal immigration are dividing the Republican Party in two. The author uses juxtaposition to demonstrate how the different views of the politicians, McCain and Romney, over the problem of immigration are separating the Republican Party in two.
