Memorandum To: Daniel From: Peter Eckhoff Date: November 17, 2008 Subject: Airbus v. The goal here is to determine as of now, which is in the best position to be successful in the long term. How and Why This Problem Arose: History of Boeing: Boeing was very important towards the World War II effort. During the late 1950’s was the trailblazer in the creation and production of innovative and state of the art commercial aircraft. The company introduced the 707, the first commercially viable jetliner. In the 1960’s Boeing nearly went bankrupt whole attempting to build a jumbo jet, twice the size of any current birds. Eventually the 747 was created and it drastically lowered costs and airfares and brought unparalleled passenger comfort. This plane became a Boeing staple. In the mid 1990’s Boeing came out with the 777, this was the first commercial aircraft to be designed entirely with the use of a computer. History of Airbus: Was founded in 1970, as an air industry consortium that included four countries aerospace industries: British Aerospace, DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (Germany), Aerospatiale (France) and Casa (Spain). The company had several production issues due to holdups from the feuding executives. These squabbles led to unrest in the company. Also finances were tangled up between the countries this led to unusually high prices charged to Airbus
