The Johns Hopkins University General Biology Lab I Page 1 of 2 NAME: _____________________________________ TA: _________________________________________ Lab Directions and Assignment Assignment is Due the Next Time Your Lab Meets GOAL : You and your partner will choose one organism that grew from your soil sample to use for later experiments. To ensure you have a single, pure sample, you will restreak the bacteria to get single colonies. MATERIALS FOR EACH LAB GROUP: & plates of organisms that grew from your soil samples & magnifying glass & wire loop & Bunsen burner and striker & two nutrient agar plates containing cycloheximide NOTES: 1. Please bring the directions from the Skills Review lab with you to lab. You will need to refer to the section on streaking bacteria. 2. If you have a camera (or cameraphone), please bring it with you to lab so you can take a photograph of your plate. Please be generous in sharing cameras! PROCEDURE: 1. Inspect your plates, by eye and with the magnifying glass. Decide which colony you would like to use to continue the experiment. (Note
