Use both LRFD and ASD. Problem StatementA preliminary design of a four-story office building is shown in Figures 1 through 6 with a typical floor plan, elevations, and some details. Please study them carefully since we are going to use this building not only for this set of homework, but also for other purposes in this course. Fy= 50 ksi steel W-shapes are used for all columns and beams, and Hollow Steel Section (HSS) Fy= 46 ksi for braces. All loads on columns are due to floor dead (60%) and live load (40%), and the load on the brace is due to wind. You are asked to do the following tasks: (1)W12 x 72 is used for the column on Lines D and 1 (see Figure 1) in the first two floors (fgh in Figures 4 and 6).
