Unformatted text preview: e62 Introduction to Optimization Spring 2008 Prof. Ben Van Roy April 2, 2008 Homework Assignment 1: Due April 11 Network Routing The purpose of this problem is to develop experience with Excel Solver. We will be working with the spreadsheet presented on the first day of class to address a telecommunications network routing problem. Parts of this assignment will require that you modify the spreadsheet and run Solver. Each time you run Solver, you should print the associated worksheet for submission. The worksheet should include all defined objects, and you should make it clear what they are. a) Download the excel file teleco.xls from the course web site. This is the Excel file that was presented on the first day of class. There are three worksheets: Solver , Routing , and Routing by Solver . Routing accommodates manual entry of routing tables and reports resulting throughput, as well as like capacities, flows, unused capacities, etc. This is the worksheet that was used in class when we attempted to manually optimize the network.
