Unformatted text preview: Family lecture January 15 th 2008 Face validity- the quality of an indictor that makes it seem a reasonable measurement of some variable Criterion validity is based on some external criterion Predictive validity means that the test is able to predict how you will do at some later date Content validity- the degree to which a measure covers the range of meanings included within a concept Concurrent validity is related to performance Construct validity asks if the test measures a theory or a construct or an idea 1. Use of triangulation in research- Triangulation: the use of multiple line of sight is frequently called triangulation- It is used largely to describe multiple data-collation technologies designed to measure a single concept of construct- Denzin (1978) o Data triangulation Data including time space and the person. You must include the time in the data collected o Investigator triangulation The researchers have to be from different perspectives o Theory triangulation Macro perspective.
