ECE2801: Foundations of Embedded Systems Lab Exercise #0 -- C Term 2009 Introduction to the TI MSP430 Development Environment The purpose of this lab is to acquaint you with the Olimex MSP430-449STK2  development board, its custom interface board and he IAR Embedded Workshop  integrated development environment.  In industry, the first step in using any new  microprocessor or microcontroller is to learn its development environment.  A key part of  this course will be learning to learn new environments. Chip manufactures all provide  data sheets and user's guides, application notes and tutorials.  They want you to use their  products!  However, the quality and usefulness of the “Getting Started” materials  provided can vary dramatically from manufacturer to manufacturer.  Fortunately for us,  Texas Instruments, makers of the MSP 430 series, usually provides very good resource  materials. The class website  http://ece.wpi.edu/courses/ece2801smj  has links to the TI  MSP 430 page and other resources under the “Useful Links” page.  Please review these  links to see whats available.  As the course progresses you will need to consult the User's  Guide (frequently!) and will probably find the code examples helpful. Part 1:  The IAR Kickstart IDE IAR Embedded Workshop Kickstart IDE  is freely downloadable from the TI website. It is  recommended that you download it to your personal machine. This development  environment contains a simulator for the MSP430 which is very helpful for early  software development.  Complete the first two tutorials in Part 2 of the MSP430 IAR Embedded Workbench  User's Guide, “ Creating an application project”  and “ Debugging using the IAR C-SPY  debugger”.
