Why Natural Born Killers ? The Oliver Stone film Natural Born Killers was chosen as the first film for FMP 250 because, I believe, it is itself a statement about sex and violence in the media that utilizes sex and violence in an extremely over the top way to get its point across. As opposed to a documentary on the subject of sex and violence, or a film that is merely very violent and filled with sex, Natural Born Killers gives the audience an extreme amount of graphic violence and sex with a clear underlying ethical message that the viewer can either take or leave. This makes it both striking and insightful, and a perfect film with which to open the class. The message of Natural Born Killers is about the effects of the media on society and our own human nature. Mickey and Mallory are children of an amoral society that has abandoned them to violent, abusive parents, and is in a sense responsible for molding them into the psychotics they become.
