Catiline Precept 11/11/2008 11:16:00 Catilinarian conspiracy 63 BC Cicero gives speeches against Catiline, asks senate for ultimate decree  against Catiline, doesn’t get it, but then gets it with a later speech, also makes  a speech condemning the co-conspirators to death.  Politicians involved in the  events, trying to stop conspiracy Sallust was a soldier in Caesar’s army, then became one of Rome’s greatest  historians.  Uses this story to support the idea that material focus and luxuries  are causing Rome to crumble o Sallust barely mentions Cicero in his writings on the conspiracy Catiline’s Crimes o Keeping criminal connections as a child, conspires to assassinate  consuls, wanted to burn the city, raised an army against rome, giving  out wine mixed with blood, forgery, extortion, bearing false witness,
