9/03 Assignment McCurdy “Using Anthropology” The Branches of anthropology -Cultural (ethnology) What are the 4 (or 5) forms of Anthropology? -Archaeology -Focuses on material remains of people living in the past, to understand people -They are really the same thing archaeology/anthropology, to understand people -Biological (physical) -Focuses on the biological aspects of what it means to be human, focused on the physical/biological aspects of humanity (evolutionary studies/biodiversity) some focus of physical or social behavior, intro to physical anthropology -Anthrop. Linguistics -Language and communication among humans, how humankind communicates (Applied Anthropology) -Application of anthropological ideas to achieve practical goals or specific goals/not knowledge What is Science? -The attempt to understand laws of nature by forming hypotheses and collecting data to create theories -An explanation proved by observation and data and has been examined and defined as true, must be testable and falsifable, rules out supernatural explanations ( that would be faith not science)
