1 1) Download the Excel file “Bond_Stock returns.xls” from blackboard. This file contains a column of closing values of the S&P 500 index in addition to a set of returns for a popular taxable bond index called the Lehman US Aggregate Bond Index (usually referred to as the Lehman Ag). The purpose of this assignment is to learn how to use the sorting feature, the paste special feature, the IF function and the COUNTIF function. The returns given are for calendar years with the exception of the most recent figure, which reports year-to-date returns. 2) First, notice that LEVELS of the S&P 500 are given in column B. Additionally, the dates are given in descending (rather than ascending) order. This is the reverse of the Lehman Ag dates, and we should correct this before we create S&P returns. To get the S&P figures in the correct order, highlight all of the populated cells in columns A and B. Next, go to the Data tab at the top >> select Sort >> then select Sort by: Date >> select “Ascending.” Note that all highlighted columns are sorted according to your criteria, so the S&P
