How to enable accents for vowels: There are several ways to write accents over letters: 1) On your word processor, choose "insert", then "symbol", change the font to Times New Roman and pick up the accented letter you are looking for. 2) You can also associate shortcut keys to the most used accented letters. Therefore, when you wish to use an accented letter, all you have to do is to press the shortcut keys you assigned for that letter. 3) You can also use the accents on your computer keyboard directly, changing the language to "Portuguese" and the keyboard configuration to "United States international".

Tell them you wish to have your keyboard configured in a way that accents will be enabled to show over the vowels. Basically, the acute accent is beside the ENTER key; the circumflex on the "6" key; tilde and grave accents are on the same key and the way to use either one or the other is by holding or not the shift key as you press the accent key. Do not forget that it is necessary to press the accent key before hitting the letter you want to get the accent....
