Early attempt at 3d>depth and perception Rodoscope=tracing live action o limitations: too stiff  movies=mirror of time o betty boop=hand ringer, rugs and such define era Two Lovers heightened motions/raw motions o Heightened=comic movie, superhero/fantasy o Raw= pure human/real feelings No distance between characters and plot and film Use romantic comedy structure without irony and condescension Need action or ironic scene to create humor now No distance between character and actor Improvisation and acting styles came together Roof sex scene o Emotional vulnerability for woman Lots of improvising moments>ideas from cast and crew Car chases are boring because everything planned Camera=subservient to action/greater narrative Lenards blindness portrayed Based off of 310 to Yuma, found Vanessa Shaw o Completely different in real life/character

Lenards mom casting=looks like director James Gray’s mom o In conversation, understand actor wave length Use of music=Opera, early films all about music o 70’s, music as life goes on, not with action Never use music for emotional beat but after Opera=symbol, social class difference Reconstructed Puccini music Mancini=see all footage of Manhattan Everything shot on location Took lot of director father house Claustrophobic in apartment=can’t move walls Crew hates working in little space People actually lived in apartment, hate crew Couldn’t shoot in New York, so moved to NJ Crew big, lot of space>get in way of people lives Envisioned something, then force movie to make it that way Director=filter, try to maintain your image but use other peoples ideas Director has no distance from movie=unable to judge  Director happiness means nothing o Movie=subjective experience  Title=intentional French Poet>what we love is a projection of what we want, lot of luck involved
