Here are some essay style questions to help you prepare for the exam. The exam will consist of multiple choice questions (not essay questions such as the ones below). However, if you can write out good answers to the following questions, you should be in good shape for the midterm. The midterm will cover (a) lectures, (b) the Fubu Chapter, (c) the two wikipedia entries on the neuron and the human brain, (d) the article by Strayer and Johnston (2001), and the on-line Science Daily article about cell-phone use. 1. What’s the difference between an independent variable and a dependent variable? Give an example of an experiment, and say which is the independent variable, and which is the dependent variable. 2. What is a control group? 3. Scientists are fond of saying, “Correlation does not imply causation.” What do scientists mean when they say that? Give two examples to illustrate your point. 4. How do we see? That is, how do we translate energy into vision? What are the two theories of how we see color? Does either theory give a full and complete account of how we see color? And if not, what can each theory account for, and not account for?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
