PHYSICS 61 — FALL 2009 Quantum Theory Instructor: Prof. Roger Tobin, Science and Technology Center Rm. 206; ext. 7-5461, [email protected] Office hours TBA. Classes: Block C: TuWF 9:30 - 10:20, in Anderson 208. Books: Required: Griffiths, Introduction to Quantum Mechanics , 2 nd ed. Suggested: Greenstein and Zajonc, The Quantum Challenge ; Liboff, Introductory Quantum Mechanics ; Feynman Lectures on Physics, vol. 3. The above texts are on reserve at Tisch Library . The library has many other QM texts; browse and see if you find one you prefer. Course Requirements: The weight attached to each requirement is indicated. Homework (30%): There will be regular homework assignments, roughly every week. I encourage you to work together on them, but each student must hand in his/her own paper. Midterm Exam (15%): There will be one in-class hour exam, on Wed. Oct. 21. It will be open book/open notes, but no computers. Final Exam (30%): There will be a final exam on Dec. 21, also open-book/open notes.
