Managerial Skills in Organizational Change 1 Managerial Skills in Organizational Change Successful change is one of the most significant goals of any organization, and one that many organizations find challenging in the modern era. The current business environment has proven to be extremely dynamic and subject to change every few years, especially because of changes in technology that have been driving organizational change (Aguirre & Alpern, 2014). Therefore, organizations must be able to adapt to the new environment while maintaining the desired levels of success in all areas (Kotter, 2012). For this to be achieved, the leaders of an organization must develop and acquire skills that will enable them to lead their organization through periods of change. Besides, a change-capable leader must be able to cultivate an organizational culture that is able to adapt to change and continue functioning effectively during the process of and after the change has been implemented (Aguirre & Alpern, 2014). This paper identifies some of the key leadership skills that a manager has to acquire in order to become a competent change manager. Through the identification of these skills, the author hopes to provide a guideline that can be used by potential change managers to be successful in their roles. Vision Vision is arguably the most important ability that a leader must possess in order to drive change successfully (Kotter, 2012). A sense of vision enables the leader to conceptualize and envisage a future where the success of an organization is greater and rewarding. Through vision, a leader is able to identify what is stopping the organization from reaching its full potential and how this can be achieved (Kotter, 2012). However, a leader should not focus much on the competition or copy their strategies since they may not work for the company (Kotter, 2012).
