Fergusen inspired his comprehensive study Lived in community w his wife and interviewed 2-3,000 ppl over 2 years Philadelphia Negro is the resulting book Proposes a wider study of the American Negro System to study problems of blacks- each year focuses on a separate problem Still believes ignorance is main cause for “racial problem” In his classroom he had been isolated from horrors of lynching
