Alexus DerfProfessor Winifred Hunton-ChanEnglish 1Putting a hold on obesityIn today’s society people being overweight or obese has become an epidemic. Obesity is a common disorder of an overload of an excessive amount of body fat that increases the risk of health problems or even in some cases death. It derives from lack of physical activity and overeating. Television commercials, billboards, and even ads in magazines all are targeted towards unhealthy fast food causing more people to buy fast food than healthier. Many studies have shown that healthier food is simply more expensive than fast food, and who wants to spend even more money than what we have to? Obesity is an epidemic that derives from physical inactivity, unhealthy diets, medical condition, and in some cases passed through genes.Despite all of this being said, the issue that still remains on the table is how do we put a hold, or even a stop to people becoming obese, or even overweight. The importance of obesity is a topic that needs to be addressed in order to start putting a stop to it.
