I) House Keeping a. The role of the housekeeping Department i. Public Space 1. Definition a. Those areas within the hotel that can be freely accessed by guests and visitors. 2. Examples a. Lobby, public restrooms, corridors and stairwells. Pool and spa, employee break rooms and locker rooms, selected meeting and food services areas, font desk areas, management offices, game rooms. ii. Housekeeping Personnel 1. House People a. The individual responsible for the cleaning of public spaces. Also referred to as a PA (public area) cleaner or porter. 2. Executive house keeper a. The individual responsible for the management and operation of the house keeping department. iii. Guest Rooms 1. Room Status a. The up to date(actual) condition(occupied, vacant, dirty) of the hotel’s individual guest room. b. Housekeeping Terms i. Clean and Vacant 1. The room can be assigned to a guest ii. Occupied 1. The room is registered to a current guest iii. On-Change 1. The room is vacant but not yet clean iv. Do not Disturb

1. The room is occupied but has not been cleaned due to the guest’s requests not to be disturbed v. Sleep-Out 1. The room is reported as occupied, but the room was not used, and the guest is not present. vi. Stay-Over 1. The guest will stay in the room atleast one more night vii. Due Out 1. The guests have indicated this is the last day they will use the room viii.Check out 1. The guests have departed ix. Out of Order 1. The room is un-rentable and thus un-assignable at this time x. Lock Out 1. The guest has left personal items in the room, but will denied access until approved to re-enter by management
