ACCOUNTING The School of Accountancy at Wichita State University operates within the W. Frank Barton School of Business. The Barton School is accredited by AACSB International— the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business—a distinction held by only 31 percent of the nation’s business schools. The School of Accountancy has an additional accreditation from AACSB for its undergraduate and graduate programs. Our accounting faculty represents diverse interests, certifications, and backgrounds and has won awards for teaching excellence. The School of Accountancy offers classes in financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, taxation, and accounting information systems. Students have access to computing facilities and benefit from the University’s metropolitan location and relationship with the professional accounting community. Accountants perform a variety of tasks, including measuring costs, performing analyses, preparing budgets, comparing results with planned outcomes, performing internal audits, as well as business and tax planning, which are major components of virtually all important business decisions. Accountants also may develop information to be released to banks, regulatory agencies, taxing authorities, and the general public. If you practice public accounting, you will provide services to the general public on a fee- for-service basis. You may perform an audit and offer an opinion on the financial information of organizations. You also may provide consulting services to organizations and individuals on many aspects of business or individual financial
