3 Voting Rights Act Air Conditioning Barry Goldwater Ronald Regan Moral Majority I. The shift in political party loyalties South & West has tremendous economic/population growth in the 1960’s Since 1964 presidents are either from the south or west. A great demographic shift in people. Millions of people move and they take their political loyalties with them. II. Factors/People that influenced this shift A. South 1945 – South is the poorest region in country, made of ½ of north. They have lowest high school grad rate, poor health care and lower wages. Other areas have better prosperity; this causes many people to leave in the 1 st half of the 20 th century. Air Conditioning – South had a very hot climate. It is first introduced in textile/tobacco factories in 1920’s. In the 1930’s it is in hotels, the movies and other public places. By the 1980’s 75% + homes had a window unit air conditioner. 1970’s Texas is the most air conditioned state in union. This greatly impacts southern population.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
