1 ECM 5 Winter, 2009 Quiz 1 Solutions A. (2 points) Sketch the system of tanks, identify each stream, and label each stream with the components that are present in it. Solution : The following figure shows the system of tanks and their flows, some time shortly after opening the tank drains. Note that the outlet flow from tank A will eventually stop, and the outlet from tank C will change in composition at some time thereafter. Further, note that without detailed knowledge of the system, we can only guess at what components may be present, but not their proportions (or potential absence).
