TOUPADAKIS Slide 2 of 46 Solution Formation as a Process Towards Equilibrium Unsaturated solution The solution which contains less solute than the solvent is capable of dissolving under the given conditions. Saturated solution The solution that contains the maximum quantity of solute that is normally possible at the given temperature. The quantity of dissolved solute remains constant with time because dissolution and crystallization occur at the same rate. We say that the solution is in a state of dynamic equilibrium. . Supersaturated solution The solution which contains more solute than normally expected for a saturated solution. Solubility (S) of a substance is the concentration (usually molarity) of its saturated solution. In other words the maximum amount of solute that dissolves in a fixed quantity of a particular solvent at a specified temperature when excess solute is present.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
