Jeffrey Lichy October 5, 2009 MHR 422 Memo to Dean Kamen Mr. Kamen: After continuous conversations with yourself as well as your brilliant team at DEKA, I have shaped a plan for the growth of the Segway HT. As we both know, cracking the Madison, WI market has been a difficult one for many, but I believe that the benefits and the opportunity in Madison for the Segway are large. The problems you conveyed to me in our last meeting were plentiful. So, before I begin to tell you who I think DEKA should market and target for the Segway I would like to review your analysis of the problems that will occur: 1) The Segway needed to center on transportation needs involving short distances, or multiple stages, where speed and convenience intermediate between walking and motor vehicles were attractive; 2) The Segway needed to target cost conscious users who wished to avoid high insurance and running expenses of automobiles in urban settings.
