Life After the Liberal Arts Degree After graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from a small southern liberal arts school, the woman I interviewed went on to overcome many obstacles and pursue a career far different from the one she had imagined during her undergraduate studies. The woman, whom I will refer to as Lucy due to her desire to remain anonymous, has her liberal arts background to thank for many things even though her life has taken a few turns and her career is in another field. Her liberal arts background helped her to come out of the maturation process a better and stronger person. Lucy graduated with a performance degree and for a while worked as many as three dead end jobs at a time while still living at home with her parents. Even with the adversities she was facing and the drudgery that comprised her daily life, still Lucy did not lament her choice to earn a performance degree from a liberal arts school. Her degree did not afford her many job opportunities at first but after a while she found a performance job and the future began to look brighter. She performed for many years and worked as an adjunct professor at a technical college. She was content and found a true love of teaching in these years. Her liberal arts degree
