Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience that illegal immigration is affecting America in a negative way and that it should be stopped before it becomes any more of a problem. Thesis statement: In order to understand how illegal immigration is affecting the United States in a negative way I will tell you how illegal immigration is affecting America’s taxes, America’s judiciary system, and America’s jobs. INTRODUCTION I. Attention Getter: Just last week in Texas a teenage girl was driving down a back road by her house. She stopped at a four way stop and proceeded to continue through the intersection. She did not see the other car racing toward the intersection, ignoring the stop sign. She was hit square in the driver’s side and killed instantly. The man in the other car had been drinking. He had been caught drinking and driving only 2 months prior to this incident. So why did this man still have his license? He was an illegal immigrant and just after his arrest he forged new documents that gave him a new identification, giving him no record of his prior arrest. provides the definition of Illegal immigration: refers to immigration across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country . Under this definition, an illegal immigrant is a foreigner who either has illegally crossed an international political border, be it by land, sea, or air, or a foreigner who has entered a country legally but then overstays his/her Visa in order to live and/or work therein. II. Credibility statement: I have been across the Mexican border once by car and once by boat in the past 2 years. It amazed me how easy it was and how little identification they needed for you to cross back into America and that was where it was patrolled. There are hundreds of miles that are open-border between America and Mexico. Over 45,000 illegal aliens cross into the United States
