Carleton University Department of Systems and Computer Engineering SYSC-5602 Digital Signal Processing Winter 2009 Assignment # 1 Assigned Jan 21, 2009 Due (in class) Feb 1, 2009 ______________________________________________________________________________ In this assignment submit only your final answers for each question. Keep the derivations of your answers for yourself. Grading will be based only on final answers for the assignments. _____________________________________________________________________________ Problem 1.1 an 8th order discrete time system is described by the following difference equation: where a = {1.0000 0 2.3695 0 2.3140 0 1.0547 0 0.1874} b = {0.0048 0 -0.0193 0 0.0289 0 -0.0193 0 0.0048} (a) using the MATLAB function impz(), give the commands needed to find the impulse response h(n) of the system. Also how would you use the stem() function to make a stem plot of h(n)? (b) Using the MATLAB function filter(), give the commands needed to find the same impulse response as in (a). (c) Using the MATLAB function conv(), give the commands needed to calculate the linear convo- lution of h(n) and u(n). (d) Using the MATLAB function freqz(), give the commands needed to calculate the frequency response of the filter.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
