Andrzej Maslonka 6/14/09 Today there are plenty of computers out there . What separates them all apart? One can say the operating system of a computer is the one true difference . With only three operating systems, it is definitely a limiting factor . What does separate a Linux from Windows? There are many differences from the way they perform, to the cost, to the security of it . Both have their plus and minus and both are greatly praised and criticized . As the future draws near, one true perfect operating system will exist and Linux could be it . One major difference between Linux and Windows is that Linux is one operating program that is free and open . The source code used for Linux can be used, modified and redistributed freely by anyone . This option for the Linux systems creates a huge advantage for computer uses. Each user can alter the code and customize the code to their needs and uses . Although this is a plus in programming, it makes use of the Linux systems by new users difficult since every Linux computer can look and be programmed in many different ways . Windows uses a closed source code. It cannot be changed by users . Another big difference between Linux and Windows are the price ranges between the two operating systems . Linux is very cheap even free. Windows operating system is very expensive. Windows also only allows a single copy of the operating system to be used on only one computer, the
