Memo TO: Mrs. Lilly Johnson, Communication Skills Instructor, Virginia Tech FROM: Kortney Lynn Pierce, Student KLP DATE: September 17, 2007 SUBJECT: Kortney Lynn Pierce’s goals for the fall semester This memo is to let you know of the speaking, writing, and behavior goals I plan on accomplishing this semester. My first goal is to improve my vocabulary when writing formal essays. I believe this class will help me eliminate confusion when reading higher level literature because of the advanced terminology. In order to help me accomplish these goals, I am going to begin looking up antonyms to the small words I normally use. If I am reading and I come across a word I do not know, I will look it up and write down the word and definition. I will keep track of this by keeping a log on every word I use or look up and then ask someone to randomly ask me every day a different word so that I know the meanings completely. If I stop getting feedback from teachers about my “slang” terms at least half of the time, then I will feel I
