The Basis of American Government I. What is government's role in people's lives? Government regulations and laws play a significant role in our everyday lives. In spite of this fact, most Americans don't view politics as a high priority in their lives. Liberty, equality, and democracy are the key values in American politics. Citizenship began as an ancient Greek idea which defined public political debate as the duty and right of citizens. Today, voting is the most typical expression of citizenship. II. What are the different forms and practices of government? Government is the formal institutions through which a land and its peopled are ruled. There are many types of government, including authoritarian, totalitarian, democratic, and constitutional government.
