MY CONVICTION By Karna Upadhyay The first amendment and all that it ensures is a right that I would most definitely give my life to protect, because it reminds me and the rest of the country of the importance of tolerance. The first amendment gives every person the right to think and believe however they choose, regardless of social constraints and prejudices. It gives them the right to choose the religion of their choice and practice without any interference by the government or anyone else. It also guarantees the freedom of the press and of speech in general. The first amendment is the blueprint from which America derives its most basic of values and, in many instances, it is all that keeps the hysterical from giving complete power to the government. Without the first amendment, the government would have the power to attack any person who spoke out against its decisions. It gives people the right to petition the government and peaceably assemble. I appreciate this part of the amendment because without the right to speak out against actions we disagree with, the results could be
