POE AND ROMANTICISM By Karna Upadhyay My favorite Edgar Allen Poe story was The Tell Tale Heart because of the effortless ways he includes the five Romantic techniques and the suspense woven so skillfully throughout the entire story. The Tell Tale Heart was an unsettling story beautifully written. It’s the recollection of an unnamed psychotic, but very intellectual, killers murder of an elderly man. My favorite little quirk about the story was the killers motive for his atrocious murder. The fact that his whole life is consumed by the old man’s “vulture eye” is so unusual that it’s brilliant. The Tell Tale Heart was definitely one of Poe’s most renowned works, due no doubt to the adept merging of suspense, description, and an uncanny realism found throughout it. From the opening paragraph in which the main character professes his sanity the reader in enthralled and forced to wonder what will happen next. The way Poe forces the reader to keep reading until the final sentence only shows his absolute genius. Another point that I found myself amazed at was the beautifully eerie descriptions that
