Poppy Harlow. http://money.cnn.com/2009/10/01/news/economy/_morgue/index.htm The recession has been hard on the majority of us, but no one has been affected as much as…the dead of Detroit. This is the largest city situated in Michigan and a place definitely not reputable for abandoning its dead. Then the recession was upon all of us, unemployment skyrocketed, but Death could not pause to consider our money troubles. And so the bodies in morgue of Wayne County are pilling up and going unclaimed for weeks inside freezers with mere numbers marking their identities. “Some people don’t come forward even though they know the people” (Albert Samuels). Families had resorted to paying the $695 cremation fee on credit cards with enormous interest rates such as 21%. Others just see no other option besides keeping quiet, saying their last goodbyes, and hoping that the government will do something to better the situation which is particularly dreary at this point, considering that this
