PETE 491 Project No. 8 Performed: 11/8/05 Submitted: 11/15/05 A Critique of the Circulating System The awareness of proper layout of surface drilling equipment is important for the safety of personnel and the performance of the entire drilling operation. The following are student recommendations for the circulating system as represented in handout Figure 3-1. 1. Show BOPs 2. Show diverter system to contain spills and a flow show. 3. Show choke manifold and gas buster on diagram. 4. Show a possum belly on the shakers to eliminate any velocity of the returning drilling fluid and contained cuttings thereby reducing wear on the shaker screens. 5. Show small volume trip tank after shakers before active pits for detecting kicks. 6.
