1 dimension Position (x) – Where you are on the number line! Displacement (Δx) – Final Position – Initial Position Distance – Length Traveled So what’s the difference between Displacement and Distance? Direction! This means Displacement is a Vector!

Speed Vs. Velocity Just as with distance vs displacement, speed is a scalar or numerical quantity only, whereas velocity has a direction and is therefore a vector! As with Velocity speed can be averaged or instantaneous • S avg = D/(Δ t), where D is the distance traveled the displacement!
