Purpose Audience Tone Content Manager My purpose is to inform my manager about our colleagues missing the financial goal for the quarter. The audience is someone with a higher position than mine, my manager. I would use a formal, and professional tone. Since it is my boss who I am writing to I will be courteous and get right to the point. I would explain to my manager that we didn’t meet the goal this quarter and I would assure him/her that I will make sure it doesn’t happened again. Teammates My purpose is to inform my teammates about our quarter goal. The audience would be my teammates. I would use an informal tone , yet professional.
