WEEK 1 ASSIGNMENT 2 Background Instacart History Instacart was founded in 2012 in San Francisco, California, by former Amazon employee Apoorva Mehta (Abrams, et al., 2018). Instacart is an online grocery shopping service. Users pay a delivery fee and personal shoppers bring the food to the address requested. The user can choose a nearby store and then shop items virtually. They can make back up selections for all items chosen. They choose a time and date that is convenient for them. A shopper accepts the order and then the user can see progress in real-time. Each item added to the cart is entered and tracking is enabled when the shopper is driving. As of the current date, the company has its presence in almost 1,200 cities across 25 states in the USA (Abrams, et al., 2018). Targeted Customers Instacart focuses on busy individuals and those who need assistance. Anyone who does not have time to do their own grocery shopping will benefit. This can include individuals who are working full time or even a busy stay at home mother. Elderly customers have a great opportunity to receive fresh products in a timely manner.
