Attn: Jimmy Crackcorn Highway 101, Box 000 Possum Grape, AR 72143 RE: Asphalt Aggregate Acceptance Testing Dear Mr. Crackcorn, Enclosed are the results of the tests performed on the asphalt aggregate samples that you sent to Miner Testing Laboratories on February 5, 2008. Tests were carried out as per ASTM, MoDOT, and SUPERPAVE specifications, and results were compared to MoDOT’s specifications for 11 million Equivalent Single Axel Loads (EASL). Tested aggregates included gravel, manufactured and natural concrete sand, and crushed stone. According to the results: Gravel failed Fractured Faces Manufactured sand passed Fine Aggregate Angularity Natural sand failed Fine Aggregate Angularity Manufactured sand passed Sand Equivalent Crushed stone passed Flat and Elongated Crushed stone had a nominal max size of ½” Crushed stone passed MoDOT and SUPERPAVE gradations Furthermore, gradation on the crushed stone indicated a nominal max size (NMS) of ½”, which is within MoDOT Grade C specifications. INTRODUCTION This report is in response to the request to verify that materials used at Possum Grape Sand and Gravel, Inc. of Possum Grape, Arkansas, meet the appropriate MoDOT and SUPERPAVE specifications. All materials were sampled by personnel from the Possum Grape operation and delivered to the laboratory. The five tests performed were percent fractured faces, sand equivalent, flat and elongated particles, uncompacted voids, and gradation. The purpose of many of these tests is to obtain a proper amount of Voids in the Mineral Aggregate (VMA). In any asphalt aggregate there must be a sufficient amount of voids between the particles to allow for a sufficient asphalt film thickness on the particles and also to allow for four percent (4%) of air voids.
