What is Protein Folding: A string of Amino Acids crumbling up into it natural 3-D state known as the tertiary state. 3-D Folding has to occur before the protein can be functional. Why Study Protein Folding 1. Protein folding is the self assembling and to get a better understanding of that is fundamental to biology. 2. Having a better understanding of them will help to understand misfolding which is when the protein goes awry and you get various diseases. Alzheimers, cancers, mad cow disease. _______________________________________________ Microfluidic Mixers Goal is set to single molecules under nonequilibrium conditions. Most systems found in nature are not in equilibrium. Real systems are not isolated from their environment and are therefore continuously sharing energy with other systems. To get that we couple the mixer with a confocal optical system ___________________________________________________________________________ This figure is a representation of a dye labeled CSP from Thermotoga maritima.
